Money makes the world go round
I’m not saying that I don’t believe in insanity. There are clearly insane people in this world, I would site our government for proof of that. I do not however believe that massive pharmaceutical companies have peoples best interest at heart. Their number one goal is making money. They are corporate beasts that have that goal as their sole objective and they are very good at attaining their goals.
If we were to investigate some other massive corporations we would see easily that it is very rare, if ever, that any would act for the betterment of mankind.
For example, we could take McDonalds and posit that their objective is to feed people. This is false, if feeding people was their sole objective they surely would begin with serving nutritious food. They instead serve incredibly high caloric foodstuffs with very little or no nutritional value at as cheap a cost to them, in order to show their shareholders as big a return on their investments as possible.
I do not believe in the achievement of happiness through chemicals. I do not believe that these companies should be making life more comfortable by selling people drugs. I would sooner see cocaine and heroine legalized because at least there would be some honesty there.
“Most of the luxuries and many of the so-called comforts of life are not only not indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind.” –Thoreau

I totally agree. Nowadays being not happy all the time seems already a disease. People who are overworked, or simply have a rough time, get diagnosed and treated with depression. I do not exactly know how our grandparents used to deal with things like that, but on the other side, maybe they did not have time to develop depression, because they have been busy trying to feed their family?
We live in the most developed time nowadays, in the modern world we have and own more than ever before, and we are still unhappy? Maybe somebody can bring that concept along to people in India, or Africa, that try to get enough water and food for the day, and got no time to get “sad about nothing”.
The pharmaceutic industries should concentrate on things that are benificial for humankind. Oh, wait! Man, I forgot…they are companies. Sorry, I am still stuck up in my naive moral idea that in fact there are other values than how much money is made with drugs. But that would actually mean that their interest is to cure diseases - while diseases that are uncurable, but treatable, make so much more money. Just as…HIV.
I better stop here or this comment will be longer than the original essay lol.
Thanks for reading, Sonja
Yeah, you’re so right. A few years ago I had bad time (low self esteem, etc.) and the psychologist diagnosed me with a bipolar disease. They gave me lithium but it didn’t make me feel better. Far from it. The adverese reactions were so bad, I discontinued taking them by my own. Nowadays I feel much better, because I changed my way of life and my view on the world. Im sure the medics whould’nt had help me to feel better.
i too suffer from depression, but i don’t take anything for it… anymore. when i was 14/ 15 i had several types of anti-psychotics/ sedatives, and anti-depressants shoved down my throat. and when the doctors who prescribed these drugs seen they had an adverse effect on me, they stuck me in a mental hospital where i was given more of this so called medicine. eventually i was released and tried to deal with my problems by myself and stopped telling people how i felt. at that time i was dealing with the stress of being abused and beaten, i believe that is why i acted out and my behavioral problems started. now i can understand why you don’t believe in these types of drug companies looking for their patients best interests. i experienced that for myself. i still have bouts of depression, and loneliness but i don’t lay in bed doped up on lithium or whatever the new antidepressant is these days. i cry get over and move on with my life. however I can certainly understand your thoughts on this subject and all, but what about the drugs that are meant to help people? are you seriously telling me everything on earth can be solved by changing your way of life and converting to scientology? no it can not. i am on a daily medicine that i need, i have thyroid disease and must take this medication every day otherwise i would have serious problems. now what is your thoughts on these types of medicines?
I do believe that pharm companies do not have everyones best interest at heart and nor do a lot of companies, the government, etc… But in some cases drug usage for psychiatric problems is valid and needed like in my case of severe depression. I used the drugs to help with my therapy and was able to eventually get totally off the drug with help from my therapist. You put out a blanket statement and lump them all in the same catergory and i think that is unfair. More than likely my comments will not be kept on your site because you do not agree with me.
While I have not ever been diagnosed with depression or sociopathic tendencies or chronic… anything, I have on occasion enjoyed the fruits of big pharma’s stock n’ trade to avert the symptoms of some of these subjectively discovered ‘illnesses’. And I must say some of those little pills were a “ripping good time”, others… not so much. As to their possible value to an individual on a more than casual or recreational level, I’m of little relevant weight (given my lack of corroborated field or lab data on the subject). However, due to thorough personal research with myself as a willing test subject, I am able to offer insight about the outrageous and egregious street markup for some of the more amusing and entertaining plethora of ‘legal’ drugs: It sucks, they were totally breaking my balls. - Bobu
It’ seems as though the pills and elixirs we’ve been given by the “experts” do more than what they were intended to. I had a Great-Great-Grandfather in Tennessee who was listed in the census as a “patent medicine salesman” I’m sure this was a very common practice in those days. And I’m pretty sure he put all manner of roots and herbs in the mix along with a goodly measure of alcohol as well. This leads me to wonder if he caused someones untimely death or some form of addiction with his concoctions?
Any intelligent person would investigate the medications the Doctor prescribes us. I remember when everyone was looking for PDR’s to see what kinds of pills were on the market. More often than not they were looking for a “magic pill” that would “enlighten them” or “trip them out”. Growing up in the sprawling county of Los Angeles in the urban menageries known as Compton and North Long Beach. I experienced all manner of drug induced elucidations till I realized it was just putting others in the grave too early in life and would kill me as well. Putting that practice into play through my life has probably kept me alive even though I have had some bad reactions since then as a result of prescribed medications that just don’t work for me. Read everything you can about a medication BEFORE you take it and discuss the meds with your Doctor thoroughly. The Pharm Companies would sell you horse crap if they could and probably do. It is the almighty dollar they are seeking and will put you in a coma just to get it.
Have you heard about tom sawyer? The bit in there where his grandmother gives him some medication?
Anyway, he gives them to a cat and the result is pretty serious!
The variability is a dangerous uncertainty; a problematic entity. When one confronts to destroy the chasm of Unscientific common-practise. A variable to-be-proven and as unrepresented as live Tyrannosaurus-Rex, the field has been
rendered unscientific. It is attributable to human condition that only when questions show impossibility of exact and constant recognition and obvious globalization; anything of conductivity for the treatment may eventually pose as threat to generations and be sought out as such and cowardice with deviancy will be the supports of it.
I don’t think there is one person in the world who would disagree with you about pharm. companys most important thing to do is MAKE MONEY, but they do make some better with these drugs. Not all drugs are good, but some necessary. Scientology does great work but not everything is good. I have read good and bad stuff on both sides. I just find it completely odd when someone does not look at the otherside at all and thinks they can make an educated guess.
